2. Build quality and Material
This Mi Notebook Horizon 14 has a Premium Look. It is anodized aluminum construction. As you can see in the lid, there is no Mi Logo, which makes it a cleaner top.
In addition, no branding on all sides, except for the interior, gives a more noble look. A metal housing increases durability to some extent. But even in terms of durability, Lenovo’s ThinkPads win the race.
3. Dimensions and Weight
The dimensions of this Mi Notebook Horizon Edition 14 laptop are 32.13 cm (12.7 inches) wide, 20.68 cm (8.1 inches) deep and 1.7 cm (0.7 inches) high. In addition, I also measured its weight using a self-weight measurer. The weight is as follows.
- For laptop: 1.35 kg (3 lbs)
- For laptop + charger + Webcam: almost 1.73 kg( 3.8 lbs)
So it is easy to carry when you are on the go. The purpose here to test the weight of the machine with your accessories is to give you an idea of the weight you may have to carry during the trip. It is The lightest laptop compared to other laptops with an almost similar price range. See in the table below.
4. Display quality and color rendering
Size and quality
The Mi Notebook has a 14-inch 1080p 60Hz display. It is surrounded by 3mm thin borders on the top and on both sides. In addition, thanks to the IPS panel, it has good viewing angles and minimal light reflection.
In addition, it has an NVIDIA MX Series GPU instead of RTX or GTX. So, as in gaming laptops, it is not worth counting the lack of G-Sync here, because this machine is for desktop use, not for gaming use. Although it can meet your gaming needs.
5. Touch Keyboard, Flex, build and RGB Backlight?
Flex keyboard and build quality
When I deliberately pressed the keyboard firmly with my fingers under a fair pressure, I found little Flex there. The Keyboard Island is made of Aluminum. But overall, I did not find any problems during normal use, thanks to the metal base.
In addition, the WASD part, like other Non-Gaming laptops, is not highlighted. But it is not necessary to worry about this.
Does it have a backlit keyboard?
Unfortunately, the keyboard does not have a backlight. It feels a bit heavy that this modern laptop has no backlit keyboard. It will be correct to say that the keyboard without backlight accounts for more battery life.
Thus, in the weak lightroom, you will definitely have a problem if you are not familiar with the entry of 10 fingers. Asus VivoBook Ultra 15 M513 comes with a 3-level backlit keyboard. And, it has almost the same price at this. In addition, Lenovo IdeaPad S540 also has a backlit keyboard.
6. Camera and Microphone
The 720p camera comes as a separate Bundle without Windows Hello support. The camera and microphone have an average quality.
In the sleep mode of the laptop, the microphone recorded a clear voice. During the stress test on the car fan, the fan was heard. Nevertheless, the microphone could capture the sound clearly. Although, next to my Voice, a lot of Noise was recorded.
So overall, not amazing, but not too low, just OK to get the job done. Compared to the other 5 laptops in the price range below, this device got 1st place in camera quality with Lenovo IdeaPad S145 and Asus VivoBook Ultra 15 M513. See the following table.
The 2 down-Firing speakers are located under the laptop near the front corners on both sides. Listening to the YouTube video, I found that the speakers are clear, but not enough at the maximum volume. In addition, they seem a little tiny. Digitech sound level meter measured 78.1 dB of its level while watching YouTube videos.
As shown in the table above, Mi falls below the average compared to the sound level of other laptops with the same price and below this price. IdeaPad S145 produced the highest noise level (86dB), while Acer Aspire 3 A315 is at 77db.
Compared to the sound clarity of the same laptops, I found it falling back. Asus VivoBook M513 generated a higher sound level of 84 dB than Mi Notebook (78.1 dB) with clear sound. HP 14 DK0093AU and Acer Aspire 3 also clearly have the Speakers, but the Noise level falls behind Mi Laptop 14.
This Mi Notebook 14 Horizon has 48Wh battery. It took 105 minutes during the continuous stress test and 449 minutes while YouTube videos were being watched with 50% screen brightness, keyboard lighting off and background apps off.
