Intel today unveiled a new line of 11th generation notebook processors designed specifically for gaming and content workloads.
The new 11th generation H-Series processors feature the central Willow Cove microarchitecture on 10 nm SuperFin. They also provide support for Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6 to provide the connectivity options that are recent and most powerful.
Six new Consumer Chips, Tiger Lake family to join, with the most powerful of the series called the Intel Core I9-11980hk, 8 cores, 16 threads, and a maximum boost speed of 5.0 Ghz.
Intel suggests that the Core I9-11980hk will offer a significant increase in gaming performance compared to the previous generation with an improvement in multithread performance of 19% gen-on-gen. In fact, Intel went so far as to say that the Core i9-11980hk is the “best gaming laptop processor in the world”, surpassing the Intel chips of the previous generation and AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series.
Compared to the Intel Core i9-10980hk chip of the previous generation, the Core I9-11980hk sees a claimed performance jump of 14% for Troy: a Troy War Saga, an increase of 11% for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and an increase of 6% for Hitman 3.
Intel has also shown an even bigger performance gap between the Core i9-11980hk processor and AMD’s Ryzen 9 5900hx mobile processor. The Intel chip saw a huge advantage of 24% for Troy: a Total War Saga, 21% lead in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and 15% superiority for Hitman 3.
Of course, all of these results need to be taken with a pinch of salt, since Intel has recorded its own benchmark results and also selected its own games for testing. We are waiting to test the processors of laptops ourselves before we draw conclusions.
It should also be remembered that these new Intel Mobile CPUs should not be confused with the Intel H-series chips (such as the i7-11375h) introduced in January 2021. These processors were designed for lightweight gaming laptops and had a TDP max (thermal design power) of 35W.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the new Intel Core i9-10980hk laptop processor will appear in larger and heavier laptops, which will primarily prioritize gaming performance.
Intel refused to reveal what the upcoming Laptops will feature the new processors, but confirmed that they will launch in 80 passionate models before the end of the quarter.
